Mourinho Allowed Me Flexibility at Tottenham – Kane |
Harry Kane, the striker for Bayern Munich, has disclosed the extensive freedom he enjoyed in his role while playing under manager Jose Mourinho at Tottenham.
Speaking with ESPN, the England captain acknowledged that Mourinho viewed him as more than just a forward.
"I've always believed I'm more than a forward who just waits for the ball all game. I think I can influence the game with my passing and by finding space too...
"José (Mourinho) let me and the other forwards have a bit more freedom. The game didn't have rigid structure; I've always been someone, even from a young age, who preferred to come back, get the ball, and make plays.
"Under Mauricio (Pochettino), I might have been seen more as a traditional number '9'. However, José's arrival meant we had more positional freedom, which allowed for better coordination with teammates, especially the forwards like Sonny (Heung-min Son). It was an ideal situation to do so under his guidance."
