Minimum Wage: Governors Schedule Urgent Meeting

The governors of Nigeria's 36 states have scheduled an urgent meeting for today, Wednesday, to discuss the proposed new minimum wage.

This development follows shortly after the Federal Executive Council, FEC, decided to postpone the discussion on the minimum wage memo on Tuesday.

Android Pols remembers that the 36 governors had previously dismissed the federal government's suggested N62,000, indicating that some states might need to resort to borrowing to implement such a wage.

In contrast, the organised labour continues to demand a N250,000 wage.

As reported by Daily Trust, Halima Ahmed, the Acting Director of Media and Public Affairs for the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, announced that the governors will convene in Abuja at 7 pm today, Wednesday, to address the issue.
