| LG Chairman Verifies Bandits' N20m Levy on Benue Communities |
Victor Iorzaa, the Caretaker Chairman of Ukum Local Government Area, has verified the imposition of a N20 million levy by bandits on the inhabitants of Logo, Katsina Ala, and Ukum council areas.
Reports have emerged that bandits have imposed a N20 million monthly tax on every household in these areas.
In a press briefing, Iorzaa confirmed: “Indeed, armed bandits are levying the people, demanding N20 million.”
He revealed that the bandits' ringleader, known as 'Full Fire,' has collaborated with herdsmen to terrorize the local population.
Iorzaa reported: “I've alerted the police and the State Security Council about the situation.
"The individual responsible is a bandit called 'Full Fire.' He's the same one who recently allied with armed herdsmen to launch attacks on the Tiv community; he's been in league with them.
"The residents are terrified. This community is the most afflicted in the LGA. His extortion began shortly after his failed assault on the community.
"He resides near a community that borders Taraba State. You might recall, the military targeted his residence two weeks ago.
"This man has been a menace to the area for over five years, but Governor Hyacinth Alia's administration is actively striving to halt their operations, with security forces also making significant efforts."
