Kano Emirship Tussle: Arewa Group Alleges Distraction from Governor Yusuf's Performance

A Kano group has claimed that Governor Abba Yusuf's removal of Ado Bayero as Emir of Kano was a tactic to divert attention from evaluating his first year in office.

DAILY POST has reported that Governor Yusuf's recent enactment of the Emirate Council Repeal Bill has caused a stir in Kano State.

The governor dismissed five emirs and then restored Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, who had been deposed by the previous governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, in 2020.

In response to the reinstatement controversy, the Arewa Truth and Justice Initiative suggested that the "law was merely a strategy by the governor to deflect attention from his shortcomings in office."

The group expressed, "We are disheartened by Governor Abba Yusuf's deceitful efforts to weaken Kano's traditional institutions to mask his significant failures after a year as governor.

"Governor Yusuf began his term by contravening the core principle of governance, which is serving the people.

Merely three weeks into his term, without consulting government records, he initiated the demolition of shops, businesses, and residences.

"Instead of focusing on his fundamental responsibility of providing effective governance, the Governor has been preoccupied with pursuing supposed political foes, leading the state towards financial hardship."

The group has called on Governor Yusuf to abandon the controversies and fulfill his obligations of administering proper governance to Kano's citizens.
