| Inflation Response: Jigawa Assembly Sanctions N116bn Extra Budget |
The Jigawa State House of Assembly has sanctioned a supplementary budget totaling N116,935,003,478.00 for the state and local governments' 2024 fiscal plan.
Elaborating further, the State Assembly Speaker, Rt Hon Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, mentioned that the Assembly reviewed the additional budget proposed by the executive following a House committee's endorsement.
He detailed that the House Committee on Appropriation, led by Hon Ibrahim Hamza, advocated for the sanctioning of the supplementary budgets for both state and local governments, aiming to facilitate the executive's delivery of anticipated democratic benefits.
The speaker noted that, amid current inflationary pressures, the executive requires extra funds to carry out capital projects and enhance public service delivery, aligning with Governor Umar Namadi's 12-point agenda intended to elevate Jigawa State's prosperity and stature.
He stated, "The supplementary budget report specifies that N85,410,000,000.00 was authorized for the state government, encompassing N7,377,000,000.00 for recurrent costs and N78,003,000,000.00 for capital initiatives. Within the capital project funds, N35.8 billion is designated for the Ministry of Works and Transport, N4.4 billion for the State Emergency Management Agency, and N7.9 billion for the Road Maintenance Agency.
"Additional allocations include N2.5 billion for agriculture, N2 billion for Rural Electrification, N2.4 billion for the Environment, N4.2 billion for the Ministry of Health, N4.6 billion for Higher Education, and N500 million for Basic Education.
"Moreover, the Assembly ratified a supplementary budget of N31,525,003,478.00 for the state's 27 local government areas. Within this local government supplementary budget, N12.6 billion is allocated for recurrent expenditures and N18.9 billion for capital projects."
