Zainab Isa, a 22-year-old domestic partner, was apprehended by the Yobe State Police Command for purportedly stabbing her spouse, resulting in his death.

The disclosure was made by Dungus Abdulkarim, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, in a statement released on Wednesday in Damaturu, the state's capital.

The PPRO reported that the accused, Zainab Isa, inflicted a knife wound on her 25-year-old spouse, Ibrahim Yahaya, at Abbari ward after a dispute.

Following initial investigations, she admitted to the act but claimed it was not her intention to kill her husband, stating self-defense as the motive.

Isa claimed she was assaulted and kicked by her husband while she was healing from a recent surgical procedure post-childbirth.

"The police are disheartened by the tragic events that resulted in the demise of a young man with potential, stemming from the fallout of a violent marital relationship.

"On the 26th of June, 2024, the C Divisional Police Headquarters was alerted by a neighbor regarding the domestic dispute. The verbal confrontation, which started at approximately 9:00 am, intensified into a violent clash.

"Isa resorted to using a knife, striking her husband in the chest, leading to his death from the wound before the arrival of law enforcement," Abdulkarim announced.
