Nasarawa's Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has sanctioned the allocation of over N30 billion for the development of an underpass and flyover in Lafia, in addition to various rural development initiatives throughout the state.
The Commissioner of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Ibrahim Uthman Angbolo, outlined these approvals during a press briefing following a state executive council meeting.
Angbolo highlighted the construction of a 1-kilometer underpass and flyover in Lafia, with an estimated cost of N16.6 billion, as a major project. The contractor has been instructed to begin work promptly to reduce traffic congestion in the state's capital.
Furthermore, the council has sanctioned N3.2 billion for the construction of three new roads to further alleviate traffic in Lafia and improve transportation.
"Also, within the Lafia metropolis, the council has identified several link roads to the city's main highways for construction, approving their development at a total cost of N2.3 billion," the commissioner explained.
He also mentioned that Akwanga, the seat of Akwanga Local Government Area, is set for a N7.91 billion upgrade. Additionally, a N61.5 million contract for a link road from Kwandere-Keffi Road to Mada Station has been approved.
With the aim of revitalizing the headquarters of the three senatorial zones, the council has endorsed the urban renewal of Akwanga, which includes the construction and dualization of roads connecting Keffi Road from the roundabout and Lafia Road from the roundabout, at a cost of N7.91 billion.
"To enhance the work environment for the civil service, the government has decided to construct a new secretariat. Following the award of the Phase One contract, the government is now expanding the project with the construction of Phase Two, which will provide additional buildings for more ministries, at a cost of N6.8 billion," he declared.
Angbolo further noted that the design for the entire secretariat complex has been approved for N991.1 million. In Doma, a modern market is to be built for N971.1 million, and the completion of stores and warehouses in Lafia Square is budgeted at N263,387.
