On Friday, the Ondo State High Court's Akure Division sentenced four individuals to death by hanging due to armed robbery.

As reported by Daily Trust, the condemned individuals are Noah Tosin (27), Adewale Oke (29), Abdulsalam Abib (23), and Ayodele Sunday (39).

The charges against them included conspiracy, armed robbery, and possession of stolen goods.

Justice Adeyemi Fasanmi of the State High Court delivered the death sentences to the four after declaring them guilty.

The prosecutor, Tolu Abisagbo, informed the court that on September 16, 2019, in Akure, the convicts robbed Dr. Benedict Asuelimen and his spouse of their vehicle and various household items.

The stolen items included a maroon Toyota Highlander 2000 Model with the license plate FST 916 DN, valued at N84,200,000; a Samsung J6 Android phone worth N63,000; a Techno phone priced at N53,000; and an ITEL phone valued at N14,000.

Following extensive proceedings and arguments from both the prosecution and defense, Justice Fasanmi convicted the accused of the offenses.

The court concluded that the case for conspiracy, armed robbery, and possession of stolen property was proven beyond a reasonable doubt against the accused.

As a result, the judge sentenced the four men to death by hanging.

However, the judge noted that the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence against three other individuals, Deosun Bamidele (45), Omotuase Sunday (46), and Abner Emmanuel (45), who were also charged with the crime.

Bamidele and Sunday were thus acquitted of all charges by the judge.

Nonetheless, Emmanuel was sentenced to five years in prison or a fine of N200,000 for knowingly receiving the stolen Toyota Highlander 2000 model with the license plate FST 916 DN from the convicted individuals.
