Five Suspected Dead in Ebonyi Police Station Assault

Unknown assailants launched a severe attack on the Ishieke Police Division within the Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi State on Wednesday evening.

The clash reportedly resulted in the death of five attackers at the hands of the police.

According to DAILY POST, the confrontation began around 9:30 pm, marked by intense gunfire that sent residents scrambling for cover.

A local resident, Mr. Tony Nwori, reported that the assailants approached the station in two vehicles and commenced firing shots into the air.

The attackers were involved in an extended gunfight with the on-duty officers at the station's entrance, lasting over half an hour, until additional security forces arrived for backup.

Another informant indicated that the incident eventually attracted more security personnel, including Army units, who arrived en masse to capture the culprits.

The informant noted, "They persisted in firing shots into the air while advancing towards the Odomoke Ishieke market along the Nwiboko Obodo road within the Ebonyi Council Area."

Attempts to obtain a statement from the police were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, was unreachable, and he had not responded to a text message at the time this report was prepared.

A circulating video has since shown several of the alleged culprits deceased.
