Euro 2024: Rooney Suggests Southgate Focus on Foden for England Squad |
Ex-Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has suggested to England boss Gareth Southgate that Manchester City's Phil Foden should be the focal point of the England squad, rather than Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham, as Euro 2024 approaches.
After a standout season with Pep Guardiola's team, Foden earned the title of English Premier League Player of the Year.
The young 24-year-old scored 27 goals and made 12 assists in 53 appearances for City in various tournaments.
"Jude Bellingham is a fantastic player, but Phil Foden is the one you need to center the England squad around," stated Rooney, now at the helm of Plymouth Argyle, in a conversation with Channel 4.
This advice comes in the wake of England's recent 1-0 friendly loss to Iceland.
