The head of the Information Committee of the Kaduna State Legislative Assembly, Henry Marah Zachariah, has disclosed certain details regarding the financial transactions of the El-Rufai government.

On Tuesday, the Kaduna State Legislative Assembly established a 13-member panel to investigate the financial operations, loans, grants, and project executions from 2015 to 2023 during the administration of the former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

The Public Accounts Committee Chair and Deputy Minority Whip, Honourable Mugu Yusuf, who proposed the inquiry, emphasized the public's right to understand the events of that era. He stated that the Assembly directed the committee to summon distinguished figures who served in that timeframe, including contractors, to clarify the expenditure of loans and grants during the said period.

Ex-Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State refuted the Legislative Assembly's endorsement of a report by a special committee that sought to examine his administration from May 2015 to May 2023, on Wednesday.

El-Rufai labeled the action as a "politically driven smear campaign," maintaining that he governed with honesty.

However, during a Wednesday evening appearance on Channels, Zachariah reported that N423 billion was extracted from the state's coffers without any corresponding activity.

"The N423 billion represents funds removed from the state's treasury without any linked activity," he stated.

He further revealed that the Finance Commissioner and the Accountant General withdrew N30 billion. A total of N1.4 trillion was taken out of the state's account.
