Eid el-Kabir: Sultan’s Call to Observe the New Moon

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced that Thursday, June 6, 2024, marks the beginning of the search for the new moon of Dhul Hijja, 1445 AH.

A statement issued by Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs at the Sultanate Council in Sokoto, confirms that Thursday corresponds to the 29th of Dhul’qidah, 1445 AH.

Muslims are encouraged to report the sighting of the new moon to their nearest district or village heads, who will then communicate the information to the Sultan.

Dhul-Hijjah, the twelfth month in the Islamic calendar, holds special significance as it is a sacred month during which the Hajj pilgrimage takes place, culminating in the celebration of Eid al-Adha.
