Eid El-Adha: Families Opt for Foodstuffs Over Rams

In Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, numerous families are opting to buy foodstuffs rather than rams for the Eid al-Adha celebration.

It has been observed that the escalating prices of foodstuffs have discouraged many from purchasing rams.

Speaking to Daily Trust, Yakubu Adamu noted that in contrast to previous years when foodstuffs were more affordable, the current steep prices have rendered it challenging for residents to buy both foodstuffs and rams.

He highlighted that for many with limited income, the main priority is to ensure their families are fed, a task that has become increasingly difficult with the rising cost of living.

Echoing this sentiment, Yakubu Haruna underscored the necessity of focusing on family sustenance within the bounds of financial limitations. He pointed out that providing sufficient food for one's family demands considerable financial means, which leaves scant budget for other expenditures such as the purchase of rams.

Ram sellers in Jalingo have experienced a downturn in business due to these economic hardships.

Saidu Lawal, who sells rams at the local market, expressed his disappointment over the sluggish sales, despite attempts to draw in customers. He mentioned that while some locals settle for smaller, less costly rams, it is only the well-off who can afford the bigger, pricier ones.

Lawal recognized the tough economic conditions, mentioning that most individuals are giving precedence to foodstuffs over the purchase of rams for the holiday.
