Amid concerns over threats to traditional institutions in Nigeria, ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for constitutional amendments to formally recognize traditional institutions and assign them specific official duties.
He emphasized the need for protection of these institutions against the whims of state governments that could undermine their stability.
Atiku urged state governors to show due respect to the offices of traditional rulers.

Prof. Isiaq Akintola, raised concerns over an alleged plot by the Sokoto government to depose the Sultan.
Nevertheless, the Sokoto State Government has denied MURIC’s allegations, labeling them as unfounded.
Concurrently, the Kano Emirate is embroiled in a dispute concerning the rightful heir to its emirship.
