Adamawa State Government Facilitates Resolution Between IPMAN and Customs |
The Adamawa State Government has effectively mediated the conflict between the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), ending the deadlock that resulted in the cessation of fuel sales throughout the state.
State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, declared the settlement following a three-hour dialogue with the involved entities.
"We have reached a consensus to lay down our disagreements and restore order within the state," Farauta stated, noting that the state government initiated the meeting to alleviate the citizens' suffering.
Confirming the agreement, Garba Bashir of the Adamawa/Taraba area command of the Nigeria Customs Service remarked they support the lawful operations of IPMAN in the state.
"The issue will be settled by tomorrow," Bashir guaranteed.
IPMAN's secretary, Comrade Abdulmalik Bello, showed confidence that fuel distribution would recommence shortly, mentioning that the results of the discussion will be reported to the state chapter's leadership.
Daily Trust previously covered the origin of the conflict, which started when IPMAN alleged that Customs' anti-smuggling squad, 'Operation Whirlwind,' confiscated six tanker-loads of petroleum, prompting the halt of fuel distribution.
