The event took place on Wednesday.

In a conversation with TheCable, Anthony Chiejina, a representative of Dangote Industries Limited, mentioned that the blaze occurred within the effluent treatment plant (ETP).

An ETP is a wastewater treatment system designed specifically to clean industrial wastewater for reuse and to ensure the safe release of water into the environment, mitigating the harmful impact of effluent.

Chiejina noted that the blaze was under control and described it as a minor event.

“A minor blaze at our effluent treatment plant (ETP) was promptly controlled today, Wednesday 26th of June,” Chiejina stated.

He reassured that there was no reason for concern, as the refinery’s operations were unaffected and no injuries or harm were reported among the staff present.

On January 12, the Dangote refinery began producing diesel and aviation fuel.

The refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (bpd), was officially opened by former President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2023.
