The rematch between Oleksandr Usyk, the undisputed heavyweight champion, and Tyson Fury is officially scheduled for December 21, 2024, as announced by the Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority.
Usyk claimed victory over Fury by split decision, becoming the first undisputed champion in the four-belt era since May 18.
Initially anticipated for October, the rematch has been postponed to December, according to Turki Alalshikh.
Alashikh expressed on X, previously known as Twitter, "The world will witness another historic fight."
He continued, "We remain dedicated to boxing enthusiasts. We trust you'll find it enjoyable."
Usyk, who became the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999, secured Fury’s WBC title, adding it to his WBA, WBO, and IBF titles during their bout in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The Ukrainian champion, aged 37, boasts an undefeated record in all 22 of his professional bouts.
While Alashikh did not specify a location for the rematch, he mentioned it would occur "during Riyadh Season," a winter entertainment festival known for hosting significant boxing events since its inception in 2019.
This rematch presents 35-year-old Fury, a British boxer, with a chance to avenge his first professional defeat in 16 years, inflicted by Usyk.
The rematch may not feature all four titles, as the IBF considers stripping Usyk for not facing its mandatory challenger.
Despite initial uncertainties, the confirmation from Alalshikh suggests the rematch is set, offering boxing fans a festive treat in Saudi Arabia.
The first fight exceeded expectations, delivering an intense exchange rather than the anticipated technical standoff.
Usyk, renowned for his strategic prowess in the ring, aims for a more decisive victory after 12 rounds with Fury.
Fury, who seemed to lead in the early stages, believes strategic changes could secure him a third world championship title.
Should Usyk relinquish the IBF title, Eddie Hearn has proposed that the winner between Filip Hrgovic and Daniel Dubois could compete against Anthony Joshua for the vacant title at Wembley Stadium in September.
