Tragedy Strikes as Tijanni Babangida's Son Passes Away and Wife Loses Eye in Mishap

Former Nigerian footballer, Tijanni Babangida, is facing a harrowing time as his one-year-old son succumbed to injuries from a devastating road accident that also took the life of his uncle, Ibrahim Babangida.

The accident occurred on Thursday, April 10, 2024, involving the 1996 Atlanta Olympics gold medalist, his wife, brother, son, and maid on the Zaria-Kaduna road.

While Ibrahim Babangida died immediately, Tijanni, who serves as the president of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN), and the other passengers were quickly taken to a hospital.

According to the Daily Trust, a close family associate revealed that Tijanni's son did not survive, having been critically injured in the crash.

The same source reported that Babangida's wife has lost an eye due to significant facial injuries.

"This is an incredibly tough time for Tijanni and his family. Following Ibrahim's passing, his young son, who was fighting for his life in the hospital, also died yesterday (Friday)," he explained.

"He's deeply affected by the loss of his brother and son, who was a constant presence in his life. His wife's face was badly injured, resulting in the loss of an eye.

"The maid sustained a leg fracture, as did a young man who was struck by the car involved in the accident.

"Tijanni is now in an Abuja hospital awaiting surgery for a damaged knee among other injuries.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with him to find the strength to get through this incredibly difficult period," he added.
