Tinubu: I Will Dismiss Underperforming Ministers |
President Bola Tinubu has pledged to remove any cabinet members who do not meet the expectations of Nigerians.
During a meeting with the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) leadership at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, the President affirmed his commitment to the nation's welfare.
"I appreciate the hard work of our cabinet members, yet I will not hesitate to dismiss any who are not fulfilling their duties to Nigerians," he stated.
He also urged state governments to focus on the needs of local communities, emphasizing the importance of accountable and effective local government administration.
"I implore you to engage with the governors. I am dedicated to enhancing the country's revenue. They must also show empathy and address the needs of local people promptly.
Residents of local communities are where they work, farm, and live. If local governments fail to deliver services effectively, we as leaders cannot just rely on statistics.
"Perhaps it's time to re-evaluate. What was effective four years ago may no longer be suitable. We seek votes from local areas; once we receive them, our attention turns to Abuja," he remarked.
On the topic of education, President Tinubu labeled the number of out-of-school children in some regions of Nigeria as unacceptable.
"The issue of children not attending school is intolerable. Education is a weapon against poverty, which has elevated many of us. We must utilize our education to serve the populace and enhance their living conditions. The educational system is the backbone of Nigeria's economy, and we will work closely with you to strengthen it.
"We are in the process of constructing Nigeria, and I am pleased that you have highlighted the necessity for development. The deterioration of infrastructure and the high level of poverty in the north are dire issues that we must address," President Tinubu expressed.
Regarding security, President Tinubu lauded the efforts of National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, stating, "Everyone desires safety, and we must invest more in technology. I assure you, we will take action. We are committed to ensuring Nigeria's security and the protection of its citizens.
The President also discussed economic growth and livestock management, saying, "Animal husbandry has posed significant challenges for Nigeria. Developing dairy farms can greatly enhance our economy.
"Communicate with the governors and encourage them to allocate more land. Urge herders to cooperate with state authorities. The states hold the lands. We are prepared to provide funds to support the herders. We are capable of this, and if countries like Brazil and the Netherlands can succeed, so can we," the President declared.
President Tinubu also called for national unity and continued backing for his administration, stating, "As long as we stand united, and unity is imperative, our diversity is our strength. Our population's size and diversity offer us strength and opportunities. I commend the cabinet members for their diligence, but I will relieve any of them from their duties if they fail to serve Nigerians," the President announced.
The President instructed the formation of a committee to monitor the issues discussed at the meeting and appointed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to lead the follow-up actions.
Barrister Bashir Dalhatu, the delegation leader and Chairman of the ACF Board of Trustees, congratulated President Tinubu on completing his first year in office and acknowledged his contributions and service to the nation.
He emphasized that President Tinubu's commitments and promises to Northerners during the electoral campaign were pivotal.
Barrister Dalhatu highlighted the deep trust and confidence that Northern Nigeria has in President Tinubu, adding, "Your unwavering support and collaboration with Northerners, which has previously aided many in securing electoral victories, including the presidency, has solidified your esteem and trust among Northerners, as evidenced by the voting patterns in the recent presidential election."
