Three Chibok Girls Earn Degrees from AUN

At the university's 15th Commencement (Convocation) ceremony held at its Yola campus on Saturday, the University President (vice chancellor), Dwayne Frazier, encouraged the graduates to live up to the university's principles.

Three Chibok girls, who were once captives of Boko Haram and later enrolled at the American University of Nigeria (AUN), have graduated among 189 students with their first degrees this Saturday.

According to DAILY POST, from the numerous girls kidnapped in Chibok in 2014, a significant number are still held captive, but several have managed to escape and improve their lives.

At the university's 15th Commencement (Convocation) ceremony held at its Yola campus on Saturday, the University President (vice chancellor), Dwayne Frazier, encouraged the graduates to live up to the university's principles.

He assured them that the university has equipped them to tackle new challenges ahead.

"You are bound to succeed, having demonstrated resilience, determination, and dedication. These traits will steer you towards excellence as you contribute to the nation's growth," Frazier addressed the graduates.

Guest speaker Professor Mike Ozekhome affirmed that the university has shown its capacity to make a positive global impact.

He motivated the students by saying, "With the entrepreneurial knowledge and training gained at AUN, you are capable of creating your own employment opportunities."

The ceremony saw the conferment of eight PhDs, 10 MSc degrees, and 189 first degrees.

Professor Ozekhome was awarded a Doctor of Letters degree in recognition of his efforts to foster peace, human rights, adherence to the rule of law, and good governance in Nigeria.
