Shettima Affirms Tax Reforms Will Favor Nigerians |
Vice President Kashim Shettima has affirmed that the tax reforms underway by President Bola Tinubu's administration are designed to enhance the system for the benefit of Nigerians nationwide.
The VP also clarified that, despite some rumors, the Federal Government is dedicated to "establishing an administrative system that guarantees the advantages of a robust tax system for all our citizens."
Shettima announced this during the closing retreat of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja on Saturday.
Speaking through the Special Adviser to the President on General Duties (Office of The Vice President), Dr. Aliyu Moddibo Umar, the VP stated that the current government will not impede any economic sector. He highlighted that the changing dynamics of the country's fiscal environment led the Tinubu administration to reflect and reassess its trajectory.
"Our goal is to rejuvenate revenue generation in Nigeria while maintaining an environment conducive to investment and competitive on a global scale," he reiterated.
Expressing his trust in the committee's capacity to fulfill its responsibilities, the VP stressed the importance of their mission, remarking, "Today's gathering marks a transition from the proposal stage to the implementation phase in this committee's operations.
"I am assured that both federal and state authorities are prepared to facilitate the effective execution of your reform suggestions, and we will establish the institutional framework necessary to adopt this committee's consensus, integrating them with our economic strategy," he concluded.
