Signed by Permanent Secretary Aisha Umar, the circular indicated that the delay is intended to control the spread of measles and allow the Primary Health Care Agency to vaccinate children who are at risk.

The Government of Adamawa State has announced a delay in the reopening of schools for the third term due to a measles outbreak.

Initially reopened on Monday, schools were instructed to shut down until the following Monday, May 13.

A circular from the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, dated May 6, 2024, stated that the start of the third term for the 2023/2024 academic session, originally set for May 6, 2024, is now rescheduled for May 13, 2024, as a result of measles cases in some local government areas (LGAs) of the state.

Signed by Permanent Secretary Aisha Umar, the circular indicated that the delay is intended to control the spread of measles and allow the Primary Health Care Agency to vaccinate children who are at risk.

Addressed to the relevant educational authorities and private school associations in Adamawa State, the circular ordered all public and private schools to comply with the closure.

DAILY POST had previously reported on May 3 that the state government acknowledged a measles outbreak in two LGAs, which had resulted in 42 fatalities.
