Rivers Turmoil: Pro-Fubara APC Members Oppose Impeachment Proposal

The APC members, perceived as Fubara's supporters, argued that the rekindled conflict is unnecessary, highlighting that President Bola Tinubu has resolved the issue.

In Rivers State, a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) members have opposed the impeachment calls for Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Previously, the APC state chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, had instructed the Rivers State House of Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against the governor on Tuesday.

This directive came amidst the ongoing political unrest in the state, stemming from the confrontation between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

The APC faction, identified as the Solidarity and Development Forum, labeled the impeachment demands as "reckless and irresponsible," claiming they undermine the essence of the nation's democracy.

The APC members, perceived as Fubara's supporters, argued that the rekindled conflict is unnecessary, highlighting that President Bola Tinubu has resolved the issue.

The group, through a statement endorsed by its leaders, Comrade Kabir Matazu and Igwe Ude-Umanta, asserted that the impeachment call is an overt attempt to destabilize the government and incite disorder in the state.

"The President has wisely urged all disputing parties to preserve the current situation and seek a peaceful settlement," the statement read.

"Governor Fubara has adhered to this appeal, showcasing his dedication to the inclusive governance and sound leadership principles championed by our esteemed president since taking office.

"It would be both unfair and imprudent for any party member or individual to not align with our president's approach.

"The unguarded comments by Chief Tony Okocha are particularly disheartening, as they not only ignore the president's plea for harmony but also threaten the stability and advancement of our cherished party," the statement concluded.
