Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, took the oath of office for his fifth term in Moscow on Tuesday. His re-election, which occurred two months ago, was widely criticized for lacking fairness and freedom.
The Kremlin ceremony was attended by several thousand people, including senior Russian politicians and other dignitaries. Putin secured 87% of the vote in the March presidential election, despite allegations of fraud and irregularities. Notably, his main challenger was disqualified from running.

Additionally, there are questions about the future of Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, given the recent arrest of his top deputy, Timur Ivanov, on corruption charges.
