PDP declares withdrawal from Yobe LG election

The Party’s State Organizing Secretary, Mohammed Sulayman, revealed this during a press conference about the matter in Damaturu, yesterday.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe has announced its decision to abstain from the state's local government elections scheduled for May 25, 2024.

The Party’s State Organizing Secretary, Mohammed Sulayman, revealed this during a press conference about the matter in Damaturu, yesterday.

He explained that the choice to not engage in the forthcoming election was made after proper consultation.

“It is also a recognized fact in the annals of our beloved State Yobe, that Local Government Council elections have consistently lacked freedom, fairness, credibility, and neutrality under the state commission from the start.

“We wish to declare that, there is no expectation for any change in this stance at this time”, he asserted.

The Organizing Secretary charged the State Independent Electoral Commission with intentionally omitting to inform political parties in the state of the planned schedule for the upcoming election.

“The exorbitant fees imposed for form procurement are intentional and calculated to disenfranchise the other political parties from entering the election”, he contended.

It is noted that the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission has set May 25, 2024, as the date for the local government Councils’ election.
