| Ondo Governorship: INEC Sets Candidate Submission Deadline |
Professor Yakubu emphasized that political parties must finalize and submit their candidate lists by May 20, as no deadline extensions will be granted.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set the deadline for the submission of candidate names by political parties participating in the upcoming Ondo State governorship election as May 20, 2024.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this on Monday during a consultative assembly with leaders of political parties in preparation for the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States in 2024.
Professor Yakubu emphasized that political parties must finalize and submit their candidate lists by May 20, as no deadline extensions will be granted.
He highlighted that the submission portal for the Ondo governorship candidates will close at this time.
The INEC leader stated: “Focusing on Ondo State, the political parties have completed their primary elections. The Commission monitored primaries conducted by eighteen (18) political parties. It is important to remind you that there is one week left until the nomination deadline, which is 6:00 pm on Monday, May 20, 2024, when the portal will automatically close. Please ensure strict compliance with this deadline. Political parties have been allotted 23 days (more than three weeks) following the conclusion of primaries to organize and submit a list of two candidates (the gubernatorial candidate and their deputy) to the Commission. The deadline will not be extended.”
