Nollywood star Kanayo O. Kanayo doesn't support the idea of giving first earnings to pastors, though he's open to receiving a modest share as a patriarch.
In a recent Instagram video, the actor imparted his blessing upon his son, who had just received his initial salary. With guests around in his abode, Kanayo declared that blessings for a child come rightfully from a father, not a pastor.
"I wish to honor a tradition from our forebears that brought them prosperity, which is a father's blessing," he said, gesturing towards his son seated beside him.
"This is my son, who has just wrapped up a movie project with us and has received his initial pay of ₦50,000. Hand me ₦500 from it and kneel for my blessing."
He underscored the significance of this custom and why a father's blessing holds more weight than a pastor's. Kanayo highlighted that those seeking blessings from their clergy on their first earnings are merely squandering their time.
"In Igbo tradition, a man's first salary should be presented to his father. The reason is for the father to impart lessons on financial stewardship, guide him on money management for success in life, and then bestow his blessing. Hence, those of you visiting pastors with your earnings are simply wasting time; it's all rooted in culture. Only a father can truly bless his offspring," the actor stressed.
