The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to equipping corps members with essential skills for self-reliance and entrepreneurship. According to the Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Yushau Ahmed, the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program is designed to empower corps members to become job creators rather than job seekers.
Addressing the 2024 batch "A" stream II members and camp officials at the NYSC temporary orientation camp in Plateau State, Ahmed emphasized the importance of actively participating in the SAED training. This training enables corps members to acquire a skill, become self-reliant, and even employ others.
To support this initiative, the NYSC has partnered with banks and notable foundations to provide interest-free loans and grants to corps members with marketable skills and innovative ideas. This empowers them to turn their passions into sustainable businesses.
In addition to promoting self-reliance, Ahmed also cautioned corps members against embarking on unnecessary journeys that could expose them to risks. He advised against requesting redeployment to other states, which could disrupt their service year.
By acquiring valuable skills and embracing entrepreneurship, corps members can secure a brighter future for themselves and contribute meaningfully to the nation's development.
