Nigerian Soldiers Clash With Traders in Abuja Market Over Mobile Phone Sale

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police Force has dispatched intelligence officers to Banex, an electronics and telecommunications gadgets market in Abuja. The deployment follows a conflict that erupted between soldiers and traders on Saturday. Viral videos captured civilians overpowering some soldiers during a chaotic altercation at Banex.

Despite attempts to seek comments, the Defence Headquarters and the Nigerian Army spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu, remained unreachable at press time. According to a trader named Abdul, the dispute originated from the sale of a mobile phone. The FCT Police Command's spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that Commissioner of Police Benett Igweh deployed officers from the FCT Intelligence Response Team to the incident scene.

"The CP has dispatched the Intelligence Response Team to the location," Adeh affirmed.
