| Nigerian Government to Restructure and Reform NYSC: Minister Reveals |
The government envisions a future where NYSC programs are not only self-sustained but also contribute to revenue generation within the next five years. To achieve this, they plan to institutionalize NYSC ventures as an investment and asset management outfit.
The Federal Government is set to undertake a comprehensive review, restructuring, and reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to meet future demands. Dr. Jamila Ibrahim, the Minister of Youth Development, made this announcement during the inaugural meeting of NYSC management with heads of corps-producing institutions in Nigeria. The event took place at the National Judicial Institute in Abuja.
As part of the reforms, over 5,000 corps members will receive funding for their entrepreneurial ventures, with amounts of up to N10 million. Dr. Ibrahim emphasized that the first phase of reforms will focus on participants with an entrepreneurial mindset, making skills development a core aspect of the program.

Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, the Director-General of NYSC, welcomed the heads of corps-producing institutions during the meeting. He highlighted that the gathering aims to enhance the mobilization process for prospective corps members. By addressing identified flaws, they intend to create a more seamless mobilization experience.
General Ahmed reaffirmed NYSC's commitment to the security and welfare of corps members. He urged corps-producing institutions, parents, and the public to support efforts in sensitizing young graduates about their call-up for national service, emphasizing safe travel practices.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, commended NYSC for choosing Abuja as the meeting venue. Represented by Mrs. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi from the Women Affairs Secretariat, FCT Administration, Wike emphasized the importance of innovative strategies to engage young graduates in national development efforts. He applauded NYSC's technology-driven approach and encouraged active participation from all attendees.
