Nigeria Has No Need for Food Imports, Says Gombe Governor |
Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Governor of Gombe State, has declared that Nigeria's abundant arable land and populous nature negate any need for food imports.
This assertion was made by the governor during the inauguration of Al-Yuma Fertilizer and Chemical Company located in the Kwadon community, within the Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State, on Thursday.
The governor, aligning his administration's agricultural drive with President Bola Tinubu's vision of renewed hope, emphasized that food security remains a pivotal aspect of his governance, with a strong commitment to advancing the sector.
His spokesperson, Ismaila Uba Misilli, conveyed the governor's message: “Our efforts to enhance Gombe’s agricultural capabilities will persist through industry support.
Since assuming office in 2019, our administration has been unwavering in its dedication to agriculture, the state's and the nation's primary employment sector. Food security has always been at the forefront of our agenda, as it is fundamental to development.
“With our own capacity to sustain ourselves, there is no justification for Nigeria to depend on imported food”.
“The government's duty is to foster a conducive atmosphere for job creation, which is mainly the purview of the private sector. Hence, we are prepared to back any entrepreneur eager to start a venture in Gombe State,” he concluded.
