New National Anthem’s impact on food prices questioned – Experts critique Tinubu

Specialists have voiced criticism towards President Bola Tinubu concerning the new national anthem, pointing out that the anthem does not affect food prices.

Political commentators, Jideofor Adibe and Sani Yabagi, articulated their critique during an interview on Channels Television, which DAILY POST covered, marking President Tinubu’s first year in office.

It is noted that President Tinubu enacted the new national anthem, ‘Nigeria, We Hail Thee,’ into law early on Wednesday, leading to the abandonment of ‘Arise, O Compatriots’ as the country’s anthem.

The experts questioned the relevance of altering the national anthem during such a pivotal period, characterizing it as “shadowboxing.”

Adibe remarked, “For me, that’s merely shadowboxing. Is that truly the issue? It seems they’re neglecting the main issues to chase after trivialities. What impact does it have? Does it alter food prices in the market?”

Discussing the matter, Yabagi suggested that the national anthem topic was raised as a form of solace for Nigerians amidst the current economic challenges and more.

He commented, “It seems to be a method of providing some respite. It’s a way to extract some essence from what Nigeria represents, so we can start to recognize our identity.”

However, he voiced concerns about reverting to the old national anthem, which was penned by colonialists, stating, “As Africa’s pride, we shouldn’t introduce sentiments or elements that define us differently.”
