NECO remains committed to building a robust and equitable national assessment system that promotes educational excellence. However, the lack of a comprehensive national examination law poses vulnerabilities. Currently, regulations vary across examination bodies and individual schools.


The National Examinations Council (NECO) has identified several challenges in ensuring fair examinations in Nigeria. These challenges include poor infrastructure, a surge in candidate enrollment, inadequate funding, examination malpractice, and question paper leaks. According to Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, the Registrar of NECO, strong legislation is essential to align Nigerian qualifications with international standards.

To address this, the Registrar proposes a bill titled "The Conduct of Examinations in Nigeria." He urges members of the National Assembly to consider this legislation, aiming for a future where Nigerian examinations are fair and equitable.
