National Anthem: ‘Arise, O Compatriots’ will be missed – Teni

Renowned singer Teniola Apata, known as Teni, has shared her thoughts on the recent change to Nigeria’s national anthem.

DAILY POST has reported that President Bola Tinubu signed the National Anthem Bill 2024, reinstating the old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”

In response, Teni expressed that she would miss “Arise, O Compatriots,” the National Anthem that is being replaced.

She reminisced about the numerous childhood memories associated with the anthem.

On her social media handle, Teni posted: “Arise o compatriots, you will be missed, thank you for the countless childhood memories. Until we meet again, with love SM.”

“Arise, O Compatriots” was officially adopted as Nigeria’s National Anthem in 1978, with lyrics penned by John A. Ilechukwu, Eme Etim Akpan, B. A. Ogunnaike, Sota Omoigui, and P. O. Aderibigbe, and performed by the Nigeria Police Band led by B. E. Odiasse.

With the enactment of the National Anthem Bill 2024 by President Tinubu, “Arise, O Compatriots” has been formally replaced by “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” as the National Anthem of Nigeria.
