On Tuesday, the military's top brass verified the deaths of four soldiers from Operation Hadarin Daji.

The Daily Trust reported an incident where terrorists assaulted a military base in the Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of soldiers and injuries to 11 others.

Responding to an inquiry from our correspondent on Tuesday, Major-General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, stated that the military suffered four fatalities, which differs from the five casualties reported by the media.

Major-General Buba detailed that the troops faced two ambushes, with five soldiers sustaining minor injuries while defending Nigeria's sovereignty during the second encounter.

He reported, "On May 12, 2024, forces from Operation HADARIN DAJI were ambushed twice, at Kuran Mota Village and along the Alikere – Yarmalimai Village road in Zamfara State.

"Despite a fierce battle to break free from the ambushes, the troops sadly incurred four fatalities and three injuries in the first ambush.

In the subsequent ambush, five soldiers received minor gunshot wounds but have since been stabilized and transported to FOB Faskari for medical treatment."

The high-ranking officer emphasized that every operation conducted by the troops has resulted in the neutralization of numerous terrorists, noting that the air component of the operation provided reinforcement during the ambush.

He elaborated, "The troops were supported by the air component of OP HADARIN DAJI and additional forces from FOB YARMALIMAI during the ambush.

This combined effort inflicted a significant defeat on the large group of terrorists responsible for the ambushes.

"As a result, many terrorists were neutralized, suffering substantial losses. The troops have adapted to the changing tactics of these terrorists and have adjusted accordingly to maintain tactical dominance on the battlefield."
