Dr. Yusuf Tanko, the ex-spokesperson for Peter Obi's presidential campaign in the 2023 elections, has reported that the former Governor of Anambra has been in discussions with key political figures in Nigeria, including Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential nominee of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Tanko disclosed this information during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today.
He emphasized the necessity for a coalition in 2027 that would lead Nigerians to a better future.
Tanko remarked, “Obi has engaged with business leaders, experts, students, and political heavyweights.
A considerable number have been approached, such as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a notable political figure. We have had discussions with him.
“We've held talks with various individuals and political groups like the SDP and ADC. The intention is to reach out to most political parties. They are already initiating dialogues among themselves.
“There's a need for a union of solid political entities committed to guiding Nigeria to progress.”
Atiku and Obi Alliance Unlikely
Nonetheless, Tajjuddeen Yusuf, a former member of the federal legislature, expressed skepticism about the potential alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Obi in 2027.
He stated, “Their collaboration in 2019 was notable. It wouldn't be surprising if they joined forces again. Yet, I can't predict their intentions, and I doubt such a merger will occur.
“They convened recently. Following their meeting, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar announced his intention to keep running as long as he remains fit and alive.
That, to me, was a clear message, particularly to those who might think he would make way for Obi. A subsequent statement a week later provided further clarification. It's my belief that both Atiku and Obi will enter the race.”
