Manchester City's goalkeeper Ederson is set to miss the Premier League's final match on Sunday and the upcoming FA Cup final, as confirmed by the club on Thursday.
The Brazilian was sidelined with a facial injury sustained during City’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham last Tuesday, a win that edged Pep Guardiola’s squad closer to a historic fourth consecutive English top-flight championship.
Medical scans revealed that Ederson has incurred a minor fracture in his right eye socket due to a clash with Cristian Romero.
Consequently, he will be absent for the league match against West Ham at home this Sunday and the subsequent FA Cup final with Manchester United at Wembley.
"Manchester City can verify that Ederson is ruled out for the season's remaining two matches owing to a minor fracture in his eye socket," the club stated.
With a two-point lead over Arsenal, City can clinch the Premier League title by defeating West Ham at the Etihad Stadium.
Ederson, aged 30, tried to continue playing against Tottenham after receiving medical attention in the second half but was eventually substituted by manager Guardiola shortly thereafter.
Stefan Ortega took over in the 69th minute, and the German backup goalkeeper executed a pivotal save later in the game to prevent Son Heung-min from scoring, followed by Erling Haaland securing the win with his second goal from a penalty.
Ortega, who has replaced Ederson in four league matches this season, is now presented with the chance to aid City in achieving a back-to-back Premier League and FA Cup double.
