Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf proclaimed Sanusi as the new Emir of Kano following the enactment of the new emirate council law at the Government House.
In an event that may be regarded as his final official appearance, the deposed Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, was present in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, on Wednesday, at a time when the Kano State House of Assembly was deliberating his destiny.
Adorned in regal grandeur, Bayero arrived with his entourage at the GRA Ijebu Ode residence of Awujale around 11 am.
His visit aimed to celebrate with Awujale on his 90th birthday and his 64th anniversary as monarch, which he recently commemorated.
Before journalists were permitted entry, there was a succinct meeting between Bayero and the nonagenarian ruler.
The gathering was attended by dignitaries such as Alhaji Ganiyu Hamzat, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, representing Governor Dapo Abiodun, Senator Lanre Tejuoso, former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, and Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, the Fuji Musician and Olori Omoba of Ijebu, among others.
Bayero honored Awujale as a paternal figure, an ally of his own father, the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.
He expressed that the visit was a chance to glean wisdom from Awujale, a treasure he would hold dear.
"I was raised hearing my father, the late Ado Bayero, consistently refer to Kabiyesi Awujale as my brother, hence the brother of my father is my father. Awujale is a distinguished royal father whose 64-year reign has been a boon not just to Ijebu land but to Nigeria," he remarked.
Bayero observed the commercial kinship between Kano and Ijebu.
He humorously commented, "Kano is essentially a replica, or rather, Ijebu is a replica of Kano (laughs). Pardon my bias, but indeed, we share much in common, including religion, culture, tradition, and notably, commerce."
Wrapping up his interaction with the press, Bayero stated, "I'm here in May and, God willing, I plan to return in August."
His motorcade departed from Awujale's residence shortly before 2 pm.
Less than a day after his visit, Bayero was succeeded as the Emir of Kano by Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, who had been dethroned by the former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

The governor ratified the law at 5:10 pm, in the presence of his deputy, the Speaker of the State Assembly, and other key officials.
The newly enacted law declares that all positions established under the annulled law are dissolved, and district heads promoted under the law are to revert to their previous statuses.
