The Kwara State Government has redoubled its efforts to cleanse Ilorin, the state's capital, of environmental and societal blemishes.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Social Development, Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade, during a recent evacuation operation conducted in the Ilorin city area.

Represented by the Director of Rehabilitation, Mr. Taiye Ikupolati, the Commissioner described the initiative as a proactive step to address the risks posed by those masquerading as beggars or who are mentally ill to both the residents and the broader community.

In the course of the operation, dangerous items including knives, a dagger, and pliers were found on an individual pretending to be a plumber at the trado-psychiatric center.

This individual was reported to the Ministry and subsequently turned over to the police for further inquiry and potential legal action.

Afolashade emphasized that the goal of the operation is to foster a secure and pristine environment for the well-being of everyone in Ilorin and the surrounding areas.

She also cautioned that any person involved in such malicious activities would be subjected to legal consequences, as there is an existing prohibition on all forms of street begging.

The cleanup operation took place around the Post Office Roundabout and the Afon area of Asa Local Government Area, resulting in the detention of one beggar and the relocation of three individuals with mental health issues to the Ministry’s trado-psychiatric facility for appropriate care.
