Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the Commander General of the board, announced this during a meeting with state DJ representatives, stating that the ban is essential to prevent the intermingling of men and women at such gatherings.
The Kano State Hisbah Board has implemented a ban on male Disc Jockeys (DJs) from playing at events primarily attended by women within the state.
Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the Commander General of the board, announced this during a meeting with state DJ representatives, stating that the ban is essential to prevent the intermingling of men and women at such gatherings.
Sheikh Daurawa clarified that from now on, only female DJs are permitted to perform at events for women.
He expressed, “In an Islamic state like ours, the unregulated interaction of men and women at the same function is impermissible. Such behavior could foster and disseminate immorality.”
He also mentioned that a prior meeting was convened with event center owners and managers to make them aware of the laws that govern their operations.
Ibrahim Abdullahi, known professionally as DJ Farawa, speaking on behalf of the DJs, praised the board for the briefing and guidance on the newly established rules that will govern their profession.
“We appreciate the Hisbah board's outreach to our DJ association. They have provided us with directives regarding the observance of prayer times at events, and the importance of avoiding the mixing of genders during these occasions,” he said.
Ibrahim emphasized that it is mandatory for all DJs in the state to comply with the board's new directives to prevent penalties.
He urged, “Therefore, we encourage every DJ to join our association to gain from the established guidelines.”
He cautioned that DJs who are not affiliated with the association and are found breaching the Hisbah's regulations will not receive the union's support.
