I’ve Accepted My Destiny – Former Emir Of Gaya |
Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, the erstwhile Emir of Gaya, has expressed his acceptance of his dethronement as the divine will.
He was one of the five premier monarchs impacted by the annulment of the statute that fragmented the Kano Emirate and promoted their status.
The then-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje appointed new Emirs in 2019 and removed Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi from the Emir of Kano position the subsequent year.
However, with the enactment of the new legislation on Thursday, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf dismissed all the emirs appointed by Ganduje, mandating a 48-hour period for them to leave their palaces and report to the Commissioner of Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs.
In a BBC Hausa interview, the deposed ruler stated he harbors no resentment towards anyone.
He mentioned that he has no intention to legally contest the governor's decision and is prepared to serve in a different role if the opportunity arises.
He remarked, “No one would be pleased with such an event, but it is Allah who grants authority, and everything has its appointed time.
"Allah ordained this occurrence long before our existence, hence we bear no ill will towards anyone. It is Allah's decree, and we have embraced it with full conviction.
This is the manifestation of God's will, and it must unfold as such. We have no plans to pursue legal action. We have accepted our fate with gratitude. Praise be to Allah.”
He also offered prayers for enduring tranquility in Gaya and the wider Kano State.
These comments came shortly after demonstrators took to the streets to contest the disbandment of the former Emirate.
The demonstrators urged Governor Yusuf to retract his decision, which they believe is politically motivated.
Concurrently, Alhaji Ado Bayero, the former Emir of Kano, has stood firm against the governor's actions, asserting that legal proceedings must prevail.
Despite the 48-hour evacuation directive from Governor Yusuf, Bayero returned to Kano under full military escort.
Addressing from the auxiliary palace, his base since his return, he stated, “I urge the populace to comply with the law while the legal adjudication of this dispute is pending. We appeal to the authorities for equitable resolution in this affair. Kano's influence extends throughout Nigeria; any impact on Kano reverberates nationally. Let peace prevail in Kano. We beseech Allah for the endowment of Kano with equitable and conscientious governance. Justice should be the guiding principle in all matters. Justice shall prevail. No one is exempt from the law. We will accept the legal outcome. I am grateful for the concern shown by everyone. As previously stated, justice will take its course. We continue to pray for peace in Kano State. May Allah the Almighty safeguard us.”
Sarkin Dawaki, Aminu Babba Danagundi, contested the Kano Assembly's decision in the Federal High Court in Kano, resulting in a judicial injunction against Governor Yusuf's enforcement of the new law.
Nonetheless, while presenting Sanusi's reinstatement letter on Friday, the governor denounced Justice Mohammed Liman, who issued the injunction, for misconduct, pledging to file a formal grievance.
Governor Yusuf alleged that the judge issued the order from the United States of America.
