| Hajj: Nigeria to Bypass Sudan Airspace, Says NAHCON |
Chairman of NAHCON, Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, revealed this information in a recent interview on Freedom Radio, Kaduna.
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced that Nigerian pilgrims will not use Sudanese airspace for their routes due to the current civil conflict in Sudan.
Chairman of NAHCON, Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, revealed this information in a recent interview on Freedom Radio, Kaduna.
Arabi stated that the primary reason for avoiding the Sudanese route is safety concerns.
He confirmed that the three air carriers engaged for the pilgrimage operations, MaxAir, Peace Air, and Flynas, are ready and well-prepared for the journey.
Due to the civil unrest in Sudan last year, the regular pilgrimage path for Nigerians was disrupted, leading to higher flight costs.
Arabi mentioned that the first flight transporting Nigerian pilgrims from Kebbi State to Saudi Arabia's holy land is planned for May 15th, departing from Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi.
He noted that approximately 90 per cent of Nigerian pilgrims are anticipated to be flown to Madinah, while the remaining 10 per cent will act as a reserve for any unexpected events.
