Hajj 2024: Kebbi State Rescues 3 Lost Pilgrims in Mecca

The rescue was confirmed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kebbi State, Malam Ahmed Idris, through a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja.

Three Nigerian pilgrims from Kebbi State, who were missing during this year's Hajj, have been found and assisted by officials from the state government in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

The pilgrims, under the sponsorship of the Kebbi state government, were participating in the 2024 Hajj and also helping other pilgrims as needed.

The rescue was confirmed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kebbi State, Malam Ahmed Idris, through a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja.

Nasir Idris, the Executive Director of the Women’s Right Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) in Kebbi State, reported the rescue of a woman from the Kamba Local Government Area.

The woman had lost her way and inadvertently wandered beyond the Al-Masjid Al-Haram (Kaaba), ending up in an unfamiliar area.

"Being officials of the Kebbi State Government, it was our duty to step in and help her return home, which we did via a taxi service," he explained.

Idris mentioned that state officials often aid with translation and act as intermediaries to overcome language barriers, and they provide valuable recommendations to committees for a successful Hajj.

He emphasized that their assistance is not limited to Kebbi State; they also support all Nigerian pilgrims in need.

"Recently, we helped two women from Bauchi State who had lost their way to their hotel. The prompt action by our officials ensured they returned to their hotels without any trouble," he added.

The CEO highlighted that the officials' humanitarian efforts continue throughout the Hajj and called for increased support and cooperation from pilgrims for a successful event.

Idris advised pilgrims to travel in groups to prevent getting lost and to be mindful of their spending. He also encouraged them to seek regular advice from clerics on the correct Hajj rituals to perform a valid Hajj.
