Gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, have killed an unidentified traveler and abducted seven others along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway. The incident occurred between Ilisan, Ceplast industry, and Iperu junction on Friday.
According to a survivor, who was a driver heading to Lagos, the gunmen were heavily armed with A.K 47 rifles. They stopped vehicles with sporadic shooting and then forced seven people into the nearby bush. The survivor, who spoke Hausa to the kidnappers, managed to give them N103,000 and his phone. Another driver from the East revealed that the kidnappers had collected N120,000 from him during the abduction.
The Ogun State police command confirmed the incident, although they couldn't verify the exact number of abductees. The gunmen killed an unidentified traveler and left two vehicles pierced with bullets—a Lexus Jeep 300 (registration number LND 640 DY) and a Lexus Jeep 350 (registration number LSR 996 JF). Inside the Lexus 350, they found a cross bag with N113,000, two iPhones, and the corpse of another unidentified man who had been shot in the head.
The third vehicle, loaded with plantains, belonged to the abducted driver who later regained freedom. The police are actively pursuing the criminals responsible for this security breach.
In a related incident three weeks ago, gunmen attacked Ajadeh Event Centre along the Iperu-Sagamu road, resulting in the death of Professor Yinka Olomojobi, a lecturer at Babcock University. The police have apprehended Awada Ishaya from Plateau State as a prime suspect in that case.
