Governor Uzodinma expressed concern over the fraudulent activities of some workers, including colluding with corrupt individuals to steal government property and divert attention from their duties

In a heartwarming address during the 2024 Workers' Day celebration in Owerri, Imo State capital, Governor Hope Uzodinma reaffirmed his administration's commitment to prioritizing the welfare of Imo workers. He acknowledged the dedication and hard work of the state's workforce, pledging to continue placing their interests above all else.


Governor Uzodinma expressed concern over the fraudulent activities of some workers, including colluding with corrupt individuals to steal government property and divert attention from their duties. He cited the Ministry of Land as an example, which led him to take temporary oversight of the ministry to restore trust and sanity.


Despite the added responsibility, Governor Uzodinma vowed to make sacrifices for the betterment of Imo State, just as he has forgone overseas travels for the sake of the state. He urged workers to join him in making Imo State a dream destination by doing the right thing and making necessary sacrifices.


The governor highlighted various welfare packages implemented by his administration, including:


- N30,000 minimum wage implementation

- Prompt salary payment

- Free transportation to and from work

- Free health insurance scheme with full premium payment

- Palliative measures to cushion fuel subsidy removal effects

- Salary adjustment to N40,000 for lower cadre workers


Governor Uzodinma also reminded workers of his government's achievements, including:


- Domesticating the increased service period for teachers from 60 to 65 years and 35 to 40 years of service

- Commencing payment of gratuities to retired workers


With his commitment to prioritizing Imo workers, Governor Uzodinma has demonstrated his dedication to their well-being and the state's progress.
