| GETAP awards N1.2m to 12 educators |
The Grooming Endowment Trust, in partnership with the Association for Formidable Education, has granted N200,000 to each of 12 educators in Nigeria's underserved regions.
The organizations announced that the grant, which closed in March, received over 500 applications from all six geo-political zones.
"Following a rigorous evaluation by our judges, 60 teachers were chosen.
These shortlisted educators advanced to the second interview round, which involved a comprehensive application and social media videos explaining their suitability for the grant.
"In April 2024, 12 educators were declared the winners of GETAP's first edition. At the virtual ceremony, GET's Operations Manager praised the teachers for their perseverance and resolve amidst adversity," the statement said.
Michael Adoghe, Operations Manager at Grooming Endowment Trust, mentioned the difficulty in narrowing down the 60 educators and selecting the final 12 due to the exceptional quality of the submissions.
"We're privileged to support 12 educators, hoping it eases their challenges and enhances their teaching effectiveness," he expressed.
Orji Kanu, AFED's National President, stated, "AFED's aim is to ensure underserved areas receive essential resources. Collaborating with GET was a perfect fit with our objectives."
Nnaemaka Nwachukwu, a member of GET's Board of Trustees, remarked, "Teachers have touched all our lives. They are significant to our professional achievements, demonstrating resilience and excellence. It's been gratifying to support educators in this manner."
Among the recipients are Adetomiwa Awofeso, a University of Ilorin alumna teaching at Whanyinna Children Foundation School in Lagos; Cornelia Udoh, a Business Administration graduate teaching at Faithword Embassy Academy in Rivers State; and Abigail Ekot, an education biology graduate from the University of Calabar, teaching ICT at Moslem Primary School in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
