| One Killed, Several Missing as Suspected Herdsmen Strike |
In the late hours of Wednesday, EdikwuG’icho in Apa LGA, Benue State, witnessed a tragic incident. One person has been confirmed killed, and several others are missing after suspected armed herdsmen carried out a brazen attack.
According to Hon. Gowon Atungwu, an indigene of the community, the attackers invaded the village around 6 PM, shooting sporadically. The local youths bravely confronted and repelled them, but during the chaos, one of their own, Oyigocho Onehi, lost his life.
Additionally, some villagers who had gone to the farm remain unaccounted for. Mr. Ajene Adole, another community member, emphasized the relentless attacks on their community, expressing gratitude for the rare gallantry displayed by the local youths in preventing further casualties. The situation remains concerning, as similar incidents have been occurring in neighboring Agatu communities.
