Post-match, speaking on BBC One, Rooney commended the duo.

"Kobbie Mainoo's ability to control the midfield and his performance against this Manchester City squad throughout much of the season has been impressive.

"These two [Mainoo and Garnacho] have been the standout performers for Manchester United this season.
