Manchester City's manager Pep Guardiola has given his take on why his squad fell 2-1 to Manchester United in the FA Cup final on Saturday.
Guardiola observed as Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo netted two goals, securing a win for Erik ten Hag's team over City at Wembley Stadium.
Jeremy Doku managed to put one in for the Premier League title holders.
Post-match, speaking to BBC Sport, Guardiola reflected on his team's subpar first-half performance against the Red Devils.
He stated that Man City's approach wasn't specifically about overcoming United.
"We don't just play to defeat United, we play for our own objectives," Guardiola remarked.
"In the second half, we showed up. United has been known for their transitional play for decades.
"We had some difficulties in the first half, but we improved after the break. Overall, it was a solid showing for a final."
He concluded: "Anything can happen in football – they managed to score two goals, and we couldn't add more."
