| Exclusive Details on the Arrest of a Man with a Fake Bomb in Jos Bank |
A young man, who has not yet been identified, entered a United Bank for Africa (UBA) branch in Dadinkowa, Jos South local government area of Plateau State, carrying an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), and demanded N100m to prevent its detonation.
A bank official, who requested anonymity, provided Daily Trust with a detailed account of the event.
The incident occurred while bank staff were serving customers on Monday.
The source revealed that the individual approached a frontline teller, feigning a withdrawal. Instead, he handed a note to the teller,
The note claimed that he had an IED strapped to him and threatened to detonate it unless his demands were met.
"Grasping the gravity of the situation, the teller immediately informed their supervisor, who in turn notified the bank's security to activate the emergency exits. Subsequently, customers were advised to evacuate the premises for their safety."
"When the suspect noticed that customers were fleeing, he attempted to blend in but was apprehended by the bank's security personnel, who then summoned the Anti-bomb squad. Upon their arrival, they escorted him to the Rantya police station for further questioning," the official recounted.
The suspect managed to get past the security because the IED he claimed to have was not real; otherwise, the Mantrap door system would have detected it.
There were reports that a mob sought to harm the suspect, but security forces intervened.
As of the time this report was compiled, DSP Alabo Alfred, the spokesperson for the Plateau Police Command, had not yet commented on the matter.
